Wiki uses

So I looked at the wikis. All of them seem to have some value point. I liked all the information on the one about the ALA Annual Conference. I liked the tips for travel information and the orientation page.

Even though many can contribute, I still think it's a lot to stay on top of. It is good you can write without having to know html or some type of code, but somehow you have to stay on top of who is making the comments. It's good you can name who can actually write or edit the wiki to have these types of controls.

Of course I know we're using the wiki for policies, etc. on the Intranet. I think that will be a good use. Now comes the problem - You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Some people will not open the Intranet to view the policies. However, we can't let that thwart the progress we can make. Each person chooses his or her own way. So on with the wiki publishing and may it go well for all!

What hairstyle fits you? Using Hairmixer.com

OK, so I didn't ready everything. I re-read and saw I was supposed to go on the Web 2.0 awards site. Took a couple of minutes to use the Hairmixer.com site. I like that you can do a picture and then add or take away weight. - If only it were that easy to lose weight. Most women like to full around with what they might look like with a particular hairstyle, so this was just a fun thing to do.

Zohowriter discovery

Well, I've tried it. It's pretty much any document software. I did try to make it post to my blog, but though it said it did it, I can't find it anywhere. It seems to be an easy layout and I like the accessibility from any computer.

Who knew I'd make it to the almost halfway point? I always thought I liked writing, but when I get on the blog I really have nothing to say. My brain just speaks to me in jilted sentences- "That's cool." "I don't think I'll ever use that again." "How do people find the time to read blogs or even blog?"

All for now for this post. I want to get going on the next part of the Technology Tapas. Ta, Ta for now!

I'm so literal

I look at everyone's blogs and see lots of creativity. Then there's mine. I just think about the topic. I can be a little too analytical at times. Just got done with the del.ic.io.us information. It really looks like this would be something useful, but it also looks overwhelming. Hopefully, I'll have some time to put into this one to make it work for me. Not sure if I can find that "magic middle." Also, I'm not sure how much I like people reading my comments. Especially people I don't know. So do I want to go so public as blogs and delicious posts, etc.

I do like the fact of having my bookmarks all in one place so I can get them from any computer.

Well, so far in these lessons I've gone from totally stymied, to very frustrated, and now I'm at overwhelmed. Anybody wondering what the next step will be in this "out of box" experience - for me anyway - into Web 2.0 and more? Then stop by next time.....

RSS Feeds and Frustration

Frustration squared! Yes, I can't figure out what I'm doing or where I'm supposed to go with it. I guess my "old school" life hasn't yet caught up with technology....and often I'm not sure it ever will. Still I slug along trying to make the most of the assignment. I can see where RSS might be helpful to libraries, etc., but for me - not so much.
I've subscribed to the ten feeds...but I'm not sure I'll really ever read any of them. Yes, they are categories of interest to me, but my day seems to be taken up with other things that will negate my having time to read the feeds.
I only subscribed to what was already on bloglines because when I tried to subscribe to the Technology Tapas feeds, it never read it as subscribed to. I did what it said on Bloglines, but it never seemed to register. Maybe that's what's wrong with me...so far this stuff hasn't seemed to register.

Ok, well it's frustration out. Hopefully the next tapas will be better for me.

First Blog - What do I say?

So, this is my first blog. Here we go. What do I say? I can tell you this is out of my comfort zone. As a baby boomer, I didn't grow up with a whole lot of technology. I try to grasp and learn concepts of new things, but the mind isn't always into that.

Technology Tapas had us looking at lifelong learning and the 7 1/2 habits. I'd have to say one of the easiest of these is to begin with the end in mind. I can usually do this. One of the hardest is to have confidence in myself as an effective learner. While I make many mistakes, I don't like to make them. I don't like people to see me making them. I think learning often means making mistakes and learning from them. So hopefully you can see my dilemma. But I've decided since we learn by doing - I'm going to "do". So here I am typing my first blog.

Now the question arises, will I figure out how to edit it?.....compelling drama. Do I have you hooked? Will you want to read.................THE SECOND BLOG (music keyed here - da, da, daaaaa!) We'll see won't we.
